Local Geography - Visit to the Broads Museum

We had a fantastic day on our trip to the Museum of the Broads, where learning truly came to life through hands-on experiences and local exploration.

The visit supported our geography curriculum, helping us to deepen our understanding of the local landscape, rivers, and wetland environment that make the Broads such a unique part of our region.

The children discovered how the Broads were formed, why they are important for wildlife and tourism, and how people have used the waterways over time.

As part of our learning, we also took part in a practical life-saving activity, where the children learned how to safely rescue someone using a rope—an exciting and memorable way to understand water safety and responsibility near rivers and open water.

One of the highlights of the day was our boat trip along the river, giving children a first-hand view of the Broads’ natural beauty and helping them to identify geographical features from the water.

The trip encouraged a strong sense of local identity and cultural heritage, as children learned about the traditions and livelihoods connected to the Broads. They worked together, shared experiences, and reflected on the importance of protecting the environment. The children expressed awe and wonder at the peacefulness and beauty of the river landscape. It was a day filled with rich, meaningful learning that connected the children to their local area in a truly memorable way.

Thank you to all of our parent volunteers for accompanying us on this magical day of learning outdoors.
